The University Hospital of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (UDUS) is located within the most densely populated area in Germany. With 47.000 admissions and 160.000 outpatients per year, UDUS is one of the most important clinical centers of the region. The oncology focus of UDUS is reflected by election of its University Cancer Center as one of twelve German Interdisciplinary Oncology Centers of Excellence by the "Deutsche Krebshilfe" (German Cancer Aid) in 2013.
At UDUS an interdisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians focus their research on circulating tumor cells and are organized within the “Disseminated Cancer Cell Network” (DCC Net) Düsseldorf. Members of the DCCNet (Lead by Nikolas Stoecklein and Tanja Fehm) have pioneered Diagnostic Leukapheresis (DLA), genomic high-resolution profiling of single cells, and are involved in clinical trials testing the prognostic and predictive value of CTCs. The goal of the DCCNet is to better understand systemic disease in cancer and to improve individualized therapy in cancer patients.
Competence of the DCCNet at UDUS relevant for CANCER-ID:
- Diagnostic Leukapheresis (DLA)
- CTC detection in DLA products (CellSearchTM)
- CTC detection in blood using different platforms (CellSearchTM, Gilupi, VyCAP, IsofluxTM)
- Isolation of single CTCs (Flow sorting, manual Micromanipulation, automated micromanipulation by ALS CellCelectorTM)
- Molecular single cell characterization (WGA, aCGH, NGS, qPCR, IF-staining)
